welcome
We’re so excited to have you here. Starting something new can be overwhelming- whether its touching clay for the first time or joining a new community. Please take a moment to read through this information to make sure you’re up to date on all of the current policies and procedures at Alley Cat Ceramics!
The studio
-
Alley Cat Ceramics offers both wheel throwing and hand building areas in the studio. All workspaces are communal, and have communal tools that any member is welcome to use. Please put tools back at the end of your session in their appropriate home. Organizers are labeled for ease of putting tools away. Please also wipe down and mop any spaces that you have worked in, every time.
Members also have access to communal glazes in the studio. All tools used for glazing must be put away and cleaned at the end of your work session. Do not leave paintbrushes, tongs, tools or mixers in the sink.
Monitors work during open studio hours to maintain the general cleanliness of the studio. They are not responsible for cleaning up your individual messes.
-
Members get 5000 cubic inches of firings per month. Members are required to log each piece that they want fired. That log can be found on a QR code near the kilns. If members go over their monthly allowance, an invoice will be sent at the rate of $.03/ cubic inch.
Firings for bisque, Cone 6 glaze, and decal/ luster firings happen weekly so long as there is enough to fill a kiln. Our average turnaround time is ~ 1 week for bisque and glaze pieces, and luster/ decal firings 3-4 weeks.
Firings are at the discretion of the studio owner/ monitors and are not based upon personal deadlines. Please plan ahead, especially around peak busy times such as Valentines Day, summer markets, Halloween, and Thanksgiving- Christmas.

In house members have shelves along the perimeter of the studio. These shelves are where in house members store their own personal tools, materials and work. Please do not touch anything on those shelves unless given permission.
Clean up after yourself. Everywhere, everytime.
In this studio, we speak kindly to everyone. If there is an issue that cannot be resolved personally, please reach out to management to file an incident report. Mediation/ next steps can then be arranged.
Please be respectful of everyone’s pronouns and boundaries.
