studio Rules and considerations

1. Clean up after yourself. Every time. Any space that is not your shelf should be wiped down after use. All materials should be put away. The Studio is not responsible for lost items that are left out in communal spaces.

2. Mark your tools with your name or some identifier. If something is left out or misplaced, it makes it easier to get back to you.

3. Do not put clay waste down the drain. Clay traps can only do so much.

4. Memberships do not include lessons or instructions on skill building. If you’d like to schedule time to have lessons, that can be arranged at an additional cost.

5. Lock the door after entering and exiting, unless an approved event is happening. The door can stick, so make sure to pull it shut.

6. Treat others belongings and art with respect. It is a good rule of thumb to just not touch other’s art unless you have consent.

7. Wheels will not be guaranteed during open studio hours.

8. Studio firings are scheduled at the discretion of the studio manager and not individual timelines.

9. Recommended studio hours are 10am-8pm.

10. Guests are only permitted during open studio hours unless permission is given.

11. There are security cameras on the premise, as well as security lights for studio equipment and general member safety.

12. If you are the last to leave the studio, please turn off all lights before leaving.

13. Don’t let strangers into the studio. If people bang on the door, feel free to ignore them or say we’re closed if you feel comfortable.

14. Tenants do not speak on behalf of Alley Cat Ceramics. Please direct any questions to Alexa or an approved staff member.

15. Use of core glazes and other materials is not guaranteed. If supplies are low, Alley Cat Ceramics will order new supplies as quickly as possible.

16. If you are unsure how to operate equipment, please ask for a demonstration before attempting to figure out on your own. Instructions for use will be provided to communal equipment, such as slab roller and extruder as a refresher.

17. Do not contaminate glazes. Keep all lids on buckets except for the one you are using so as not to dump into the wrong container. Glazes are properly marked with test tiles as examples.

18. Surprise clay buckets are for midrange fire clay that has been contaminated . Clay will be reclaimed and pugged out for a “pay what you can” price, with a minimum fo $5 for two logs(roughly 15-20# of clay)There is a high chance that hair will be in reclaimed clay. Proceed with caution.

19. Do not store anything outside of your designated shelf space or gallery walls unless approved. If it does not fit on your shelf, please take it home. If you are an at home member, you must take any tools and supplies home each time.

20. If selling with Alley Cat Ceramics, you agree to a 20-30% commission on pieces sold either online, in story sales, or in person events.

21. Anyone in the studio on Wednesdays agrees to participate in Disco Wednesday by listening to disco music all day long.

22. Do not enter Alexa’s studio space without consent. There’s a lot of stuff happening all the time. Tools and glazes and clay in the space are not up for grabs.
