We will focus on sconces, candelabras that are displayed on the wall, using handbuilding techniques. Pinching, coiling, and slabs will allow us to work flat, while adding three-dimensional elements. Open to all levels. Students will be provided with clay, studio glazes, and tools students also have access to open studio for the duration of the class.
Week 1
~ rolling out slabs, cutting out shapes, using coils to create the backgrounds for our sconces.
~ pinch pots with elongated bases to hold our candle sticks, slipping and scoring
~ planning for hardware and how to hang: holes and loops
~ setting up stilts/reinforcements to hold elongated pieces in place
Week 2
~ Continue building and attaching
~ sgraffito and painting with underglaze/colored slip
Week 3
~Glazing

~ Finishing projects/ show and tell
